ZO-MOD
This is a moderately-low
viscosity, alumina-enhanced phosphate-bonded, water-based, calcium
oxide-stabilized [4%] zirconium oxide coating. Type ZO-MOD is
readily absorbed by porous and fibrous ceramic bodies to harden and
rigidize the surface while providing a hard, highly chemically
resistant protective layer. In its liquid form, with a specific
gravity of 2.5 and pH of 3, this cream colored coating utilizes 40%
aluminum oxyphosphate-nitrate binder along with the active
ingredient of zirconia. On heating to above 600 C, the coating is
fully outgassed, yielding 82% zirconia - 8% phosphorus oxide - 6%
alumina. Type ZO-MOD can have a 100 to 500 sq.ft. per gallon
coverage, with the lower amount occurring with porous refractories
due to its penetration into them. A high hardness coating results
during use to 1800 C in all use-atmospheres. |
